The Aromatic Bath
Aromatherapy applies the beneficial effects of essential oils through a variety of baths. The aromatic bath is an extremely effective and easy first step for beginners - and a splendidly therapeutic and sensual indulgence.
Restoring effects of bathing and massaging oils into their body were appreciated by ancient Greeks. And Roman cultures, when bathing first became a daily ritual. And a bath with essential oils is one of the simplest and most effective of aromatherapy treatments because the oils, when added to bath water, are pleasantly absorbed through the skin.
The Regular bath
This is all that is required to enhance your regular bath. Run a bath with hand-hot water. The essential oils will evaporate quiet quickly, so add them only when ready bathe. Use about 6-12 drops of essential oil for each bath. They tend to float on the surface, so dispense well before entering.
Ensure the room is warm and the windows and doors closed to keep in the vapours. Immerse your body completely for at least 10 minutes, relax and breathe deeply.
The aromatic bath can be as simple as that, though much more is possible.
Special aromatic baths
A bath can be stimulating or relaxing, depending on the temperature of the water and weather you choose oils with uplifting or calming properties in the bath, the therapeutic action of the oils is twofold. They are absorbed through the skin, moisturising the dermis and entering the circulatory system, and at the same time their aromas are inhaled. Stimulating the brain and increasing your sense of wellbeing. An aromatic bath can detoxify the body, and improve such problems as cellulite, joint stiffness, general aches and pains, colds and headaches. it tones / conditions the skin and should also relieve anxiety and tension.
Bath temperature and time in the tub are important. a cooler bath is more stimulating and warm bath relaxes. Very hot water is damaging, however, accelerating the heartbeat and causing blood vessels to capillaries to expand you should particularly avoid hot water if you have varicose veins, haemorrhoids, high blood pressure or are pregnant. a 15 – 20 minute soak is long enough before skin cells over – hydrate and swell with water.
The relaxing bath
To calm yourself after a hectic day or to prepare yourself for a peaceful night’s sleep. Make your bathroom a private sanctuary. Keep the light soft if possible, or use a eye mask. Burn aromatic candles and use plants to oxygenate the atmosphere. Support your head with a bath pillow, close your eyes and inhale deeply. Concentrate on your breathing, empty your mind and let the oils soothe away the stresses and strains. After 15 -20 minutes soak, get out slowly and wrap yourself with a large warm towel....
