Tap water – How good is it and why would you need it to be filtered?
This is a great debate and will depend on your viewpoint.
All the water in Australia will contain Chlorine, Pesticides and herbicides
including Atrazine which is heavy linked to cancer and banned in several countries
and contain some heavy metals. Is it safe to Drink, probably, although the issue
of pesticides and herbicides is a worry? Is it pure?. NO
WATER FILTER PRODUCTS
If selling one of our products it is important that you are aware of what different water filters will remove and what they will not remove.
There are a plethora of filters products out there and several claims that are
simply not true and are misleading to the consumer.
Here are some short notes on the different type f filter products on the market and what they can and cannot remove, and what they do and do not do.
It should be added that several products now use combination of
methodologies to improve water quality.
Please note in this water softeners has also been added as people will
say I have a water softener.
These are not filters in fact can do more harm to your health than good.
WATER SOFTENERS
A water softener does not clean water as some people suggested. It is an ion exchange
device designed to remove minerals such as Calcium and Magnesium from the
water and replace them with Sodium.
Their use is to reduce the build up of lime scale in hot water systems improving
the ability of soaps and shampoos etc.
Of course the downside is it increases sodium in the water and sodium usage
should be minimised not increased in people diets who suffer from heart disease
or high blood pressure.
It also decreases entirely the calcium and magnesium in the water that are important for many metabolic processes and in fact to your hydration levels.
In other words great for your appliances but not so great for your body.
NOTE: water softeners do not remove Chlorine or other impurities from the water.
They are an opportunity for us to sell to not a deterrent.

Activated Carbon is positively charged carbon utilised to remove contaminants
such as Pesticides, Herbicides, heavy metals, sediment and other volatile
organic components from the water.
The effectiveness of the filter depends on how tightly the carbon is compacted and how much exposure the water has to the medium, the slower the flow
of water the more effective.
Highly compressed carbon filters can remove Giardia,
Cryptosporidium and some other bacteria.
The effectiveness of these filters is dictated by the amount of times they are charged
as they use catalytic reduction and adsorption to remove the particles and once
the carbon is saturated it will no longer remove contaminants. In other words
mandatory filter changes are required.
